Bring a touch of old-world charm to your table with this beautiful antique covered cheese keeper, dating to the late Victorian or early 20th century. While many collectors refer to these as butter dishes today, the taller domed lid was traditionally designed to protect a wedge of cheese on the dining table before the days of refrigeration.

The dish features a classic rectangular form with a generously domed lid and sturdy loop handle. Delicate multi-colored floral transferware—including soft yellow and mauve blooms—is complemented by richly sponged gold and brown trim around the edges, giving it the timeless elegance so often associated with European semi-porcelain and ironstone of the era.

This style is especially characteristic of German makers such as Ludwig Wessel (Imperial Bonn), though similar examples were also produced by Staffordshire potteries in England around the turn of the 20th century.

Condition:
This piece is in nice vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. It displays overall crazing to the glaze, along with some staining on the underplate, both of which are consistent with its age and add to its antique character. Please review all photos as they are part of the description.

Whether displayed in a farmhouse kitchen, cottage-style dining room, or used as a charming serving piece, this antique cheese keeper is a wonderful addition to any transferware or ironstone collection.
