A Flea & Frame Creation, made by bringing together two vintage finds — an illustration from an old book and a beautifully detailed vintage frame.
This small black-and-white illustration depicts early colonial New Amsterdam, showing the Dutch settlement along the waterfront with its distinctive step-gabled architecture, the Stadt Huys (city hall), sailing vessels, merchants, and activity along the harbor.
I paired the illustration with an ornate antique-style silver-tone frame featuring an aged finish and raised floral and acanthus-style detailing at each corner. The elaborate frame is a beautiful contrast to the simple historical artwork inside.
Each Flea & Frame Creation is individually put together using imagery from old books paired with vintage frames, giving two previously loved pieces a new life together.
