A striking little piece of mid-century European porcelain, this vintage rooster figurine was produced by the Riga Porcelain Factory (RPR) in Soviet-era Latvia, most likely dating to the 1950s–1960s. They are quite rare in North America and Western markets. Finding one in the United States usually means it was brought over by someone from Latvia and parts of Eastern Europe, or an antique importer.

The rooster has the wonderfully stylized, sculptural form associated with mid-century porcelain design—a smooth white body with a fluid silhouette, bright red comb and wattle, delicate black-painted accents along the tail feathers, and a beautiful wash of soft blue-purple glaze flowing down the neck and toward the base.

At just 4 inches tall, it’s a small piece with plenty of personality and would make a charming addition to a collection of vintage European ceramics, mid-century animal figurines, or colorful kitchen and cottage décor.
