This charming vintage ceramic duck planter is full of the whimsical personality that made mid-century novelty pottery so collectible.
The anthropomorphic duck features a wonderfully expressive face and an adorable flower blossom hat. Textured yellow feathers contrast with the creamy white body and pink chest, while warm brown hand-painted accents add definition around the head to accent the hat ribbon.
Planters featuring playful animals and characters were especially popular during the 1940s and 1950s, when American and imported pottery makers produced an incredible variety of novelty pieces for the home. This piece is unmarked, so the exact maker is unknown, but its styling is characteristic of mid-century novelty pottery from the period.
Perfect tucked into a collected cottage or farmhouse vignette.
